Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched a new program under the aim of Atma Nirbhar Bharat. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs is launching the Affordable Rental Housing Program for the people who are truly poor and this will contribute to a significant improvement in the daily lives of migrants and poor people in India. Affordable rental housing program 2022

The affordable rental housing program will help people like migrants and poor people living in the urban population. Through this program, the existing state-funded vacant houses in the cities will be converted into the Affordable Rental Housing program under the public-private partnership model or by public bodies. This is a centrally funded program. This program will construct, operate and maintain affordable rental housing complexes available on vacant lots. According to the relevant authorities, this program will help create at least 40 houses with basic infrastructure facilities. The houses will consist of single rooms up to 30 square meters and double rooms up to 60 square meters. These houses will have a living area, a kitchen, a toilet, a bathroom and a bed. This is determined by the local authorities and animators and can operate for at least 25 years.

Affordable rental housing complexes launched

A sub-program of Pradhanmantri Awas Yojana called Affordable Rental Housing Complexes was launched by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs to provide a dignified life for urban migrants and the poor close to work. The government will implement this system in two models. Under Model 1, the government will use existing state-funded vacant homes built under the Jawaharlal Nehru National and Rajiv Awas Yojana urban renewal mission to convert AHCCS through public-private partnerships or through public bodies.

In model 2, construction, operation and maintenance of affordable rental housing complexes are carried out by public/private entities on their own available vacant land. Under Model 1, 5,478 existing government-funded vacant homes were converted into ARHCs to provide migrants and the poor with access to decent, affordable rental housing close to work. The government will develop another 7,483 units across the country. Under Model 2 of the program, a proposal for the development of 78885 new units was approved

Deduction for affordable rental housing extended until 2022

ARHCs program beneficiaries

The beneficiaries of the Affordable Rental Housing Scheme are:-

Background of the ARHC program

The national urban renewal mission of Jawaharlal Nehru and Rajiv Awas Yojana was established in 2005 and worked until 2014. The aim was to provide slum dwellers with Pucca houses on a condominium basis. A number of people benefited from the program. To date, a total of 13.83 lakh houses have been built and around 12.24 lakh houses have been completed. The remaining homes are still not being built by the relevant authorities and around 1.08,000 homes under the programs remain vacant. A large part of this wasteland lies unused. This affordable rental home program was created to take advantage of these vacant lots that are available in different types of areas of the country.

24 states/union territories sign pact
