About the Prime Minister Research Grant 2022

The Government of India established the Prime Minister Research Fellowship Scheme to improve the quality of research at various higher education institutions in the country. Aim of Prime Minister Research Grant

The primary objective of the Prime Minister Research Fellowship is to provide financial support to Ph.D. Scientists so that they can conduct research effectively and efficiently. This financial support is provided by the Government of India. This program is designed to motivate students to pursue careers in research. Only those students who wish to continue their research in science or technology can benefit from the Prime Minister’s Research Grant Scheme

Apart from this grant, each grantee will receive a research grant of Rs 2 lakh per year for five years. The grantee will receive a research grant totaling Rs 10 lakh for five years. The duration of the scholarship is until the end of the fourth year of the doctorate. for students from integrated courses and up to the end of the fifth year of doctoral studies for BTech or equivalent. For students who are selected via lateral entry paths, the scholarship will be continued until the student stays in the doctoral program. There is no additional payment. Through CSR funding, industry involvement in the PMRF program will be explored to allow industry to sponsor grantees

Changes to the Prime Minister’s Research Grant Scheme

  • Under the Prime Minister Research Scholarship, students of any university can apply. So far, only students from certain selected institutes can apply
  • Previously the GATE score was 750, which has now been reduced to 600
  • As for the new guidelines, there will be two entry channels, direct entry and side entry
  • Lateral entry is for students who are aiming for a doctorate. from PMRF grant institutes who have completed a minimum of 12 months or 24 months, depending on the requirement, may also apply as grant recipients under the Prime Minister’s Research Grant Scheme
  • All those National Institutes of Technologies that appear in the top 25 in the National Institutes Ranking Framework rankings are also eligible to become Prime Minister’s Research Grant Institutes

Eligibility Criteria for the Prime Minister’s Research Grant Scheme

Direct entry channel

  • Applicant must complete the last year of 4-5 year undergraduate degree for 5 year integrated M.tech or 2 year MSc or 5 year undergraduate or postgraduate dual degree in Science and Technology from IISC/IIT/NITs/ Complete IISERS/IIEST and centrally funded IIIT. Eligible candidate must have a secured CGPA or CPI of at least 8.0 on a 10 point scale. All candidates who are in 5-year integrated dual degrees, if they are provided with separate CGPA for UG and PG parts of the program, then the CGPA of the UG part will be considered for the first four years

OR

The candidate must have completed the final year of a 4- or 5-year bachelor’s or 5-year integrated MTech or 5-year integrated MSc or 2-year integrated MSc or 5-year bachelor’s or postgraduate dual major in Science and Technology at a other university or institute recognized in india. The candidate must have achieved a minimum CGPA score of 8 or equivalent in addition to the minimum score of 650 in the applicable gate subject

OR

Candidate must have a qualifying Gate or be pursuing or completed Mtech/MS through research at one of the grating institutions with a minimum CGPA for CPI of 8.0 at the end of the 1st semester with at least four courses. For those candidates who apply after the first semester, the CGPA or CPI requirement of 8.0 is based on all courses, labs, and thesis that the candidate has completed

  • You should apply for a PhD program in 1 of the PMRF Scholarship Institute and be selected for the program
  • The institute that accepted the student into the PhD program should make a strong recommendation and upload the relevant information on the web portal. Students can be admitted directly to the institute where they have been selected and wish to apply for admission
  • The metrics by which the candidate will be judged include research exposure, publication, performance in international competitions, grades and letters of recommendation
  • Within 12 to 18 months of admission to the PhD program, the candidate’s progress will be reviewed by the panel and continuation of the scholarship will depend on the candidate’s satisfactory performance
  • The candidate must submit a strong research proposal

Lateral entry channel

  • The candidate should be pursuing a PhD at the PMRF scholarship institution
  • He or she should have completed at least 12 months in the PhD program if he or she completed a joint PhD program after the Master’s degree and at least 24 months in the PhD program if he or she completed the Bachelor’s degree. entered the PhD program
  • The deadline is counted from the date of admission to the doctoral program to the date of application for lateral entry
  • Each candidate is considered at least twice via the lateral entry channel
  • If the MTECH, MSc and PhD course is integrated, the candidate can apply within 12 months after fulfilling the Master’s degree requirement
  • Candidate must have completed at least four courses in the PhD program and obtained a minimum of 8.5 CGPA or higher
  • The institute where the student is enrolled should give a strong recommendation for the candidate and upload all relevant information to the web portal, including research proposals in soft copies of publications
  • Changing to another institute is not possible
  • The candidate cannot be considered for the direct entry channel in the following year

Application process under the Prime Minister Research Fellowship Scheme

  • The candidate must apply to the PMRF scholarship institution for the regular PhD program
  • If you are selected and your candidacy from the North is found, the Institute will nominate you
  • You must have been admitted to the doctoral program at the beginning of the current semester
  • If you were previously accepted into the doctoral program, you can only be considered in lateral entry mode
  • The nomination is not a guarantee and acceptance of the scholarship
  • After the nomination, the panel of experts reviews the nomination and makes decisions
  • There is no central portal through which you can apply for direct entry
  • They must go through one of the institutes and gain admission to their PhD program in order to benefit from this program
  • Once the committee has received your nomination, you will be sent a link to submit your application
  • You will also be asked to submit your academic background with transcripts, details of research experience or internship, curriculum vitae, research proposal or letter of intent, list of publications and references
  • There will be no reservation quota under the program
  • The deadline for nominations by the Institute is January 15, 2022
